Two surfaces, two different answers

This policy covers the Music for Noisy Places app and the quietshrine.com website. They behave very differently, so they are described separately. If you only use the app, the second half does not apply to you.

Music for Noisy Places is an iPhone app published by Quiet Shrine, LLC, a limited liability company registered in California, USA ("we", "us"). Questions go to info@quietshrine.com.

The app

No account, no sign-up

The app has no login. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, contacts, photos, location, microphone, or health data, and the app does not request permission to access any of them.

What stays on your device

Your mixer settings and your place in the app are stored locally on your iPhone and are removed when you delete the app. We do not receive a listening history tied to you, and there is no account for one to be attached to. We do receive anonymous usage events, described next.

Analytics and diagnostics

The app uses Google Firebase to understand how it is used and to find out when it breaks. Firebase records events such as which room you opened, which mood you selected, how long a session lasted, and whether a purchase screen was reached, along with your device model, operating system version, app version, and country. If the app crashes, it sends a crash report containing the same device details and a technical trace of what the app was doing.

These events are tied to a randomly generated installation identifier, not to your name, email address, or Apple ID. We do not collect any of those, and we cannot use this data to work out who you are. Deleting the app ends the collection and resets the identifier. Google processes this data on our behalf; see Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

We use it for one purpose: deciding what to fix and what to build next. It is not used for advertising, it is not sold or shared with anyone else, and the app does not use the advertising identifier or ask for App Tracking Transparency permission.

Separately, if you have turned on Share iPhone Analytics in your iOS settings, Apple may share anonymised crash and performance data with us as the app's developer. That is controlled entirely by you in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple is the merchant of record. We never see or receive your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID. The app receives only a signed receipt from Apple confirming whether a subscription is currently active, which it checks on your device to unlock content. Apple provides us with aggregate, anonymised sales reports that cannot be used to identify individual customers.

The website

Analytics

We use PostHog to count visits to this site, configured deliberately small: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, records no session replays, and we discard your IP address rather than store it. What it keeps is the page you viewed, where you arrived from, your browser and device type, and the campaign link you clicked, so we can tell which descriptions of the app bring people in. It does not build a profile of you or follow you to other websites. PostHog processes this data on our behalf; see its privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.

The email list

If you enter your email address to hear about the launch, that address is stored by Kit, the service we use to send email. Alongside it we store a tag recording which page you signed up from and the campaign link you arrived on, so that we know which descriptions of the app people find worth reading.

We use your address to send you email about Music for Noisy Places and nothing else. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone other than Kit, who process it on our behalf; see Kit's privacy policy at kit.com/privacy. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list entirely. You can also write to info@quietshrine.com and ask us to delete your address, and we will.

The support form

The support page has a contact form. It collects only what you type into it: your email address, so we can reply, and optionally your name, device, app version, and message. Submissions are delivered straight to our own mailbox by this website's server; no third-party form service is involved. We use them to answer you and for nothing else; they do not go on a mailing list and are never shared or sold. We keep them only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry and keep a support record, typically no more than 24 months.

Fonts

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. Doing so sends your IP address to Google as part of the request for the font files. No cookie is set.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Bluehost, whose servers keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and diagnostic purposes. The site is served over HTTPS.

What we never do

• We do not sell or rent personal information. We never have and will not.
• We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics resellers. The only processors involved are the ones named on this page.
• We do not show advertising in the app or on this site.
• We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other apps and websites. The app does not use the advertising identifier and does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
• We do not ask for, and cannot see, your name, email address, contacts, photos, precise location, microphone, or health data.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to info@quietshrine.com. In practice such a request will concern the email list or support correspondence, since those are the only places we hold anything tied to a person. App analytics are linked to a random installation identifier rather than to you, so we usually cannot locate a particular person's events. Deleting the app stops the collection and resets that identifier.

Privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising them. We will honour those requests regardless of where you live. Where GDPR applies, our lawful basis for the limited processing described above is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the app and this website, and your consent for the email list.

Security and retention

Data stored by the app on your iPhone is protected by iOS device encryption. This website is served over HTTPS, and form submissions are transmitted encrypted. Correspondence you send us is kept only as long as needed to answer it and to keep a record of support issues.

Children

The app and this site are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us their email address, write to info@quietshrine.com and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date above. Material changes affecting the email list will also be sent to the list.
